Fuel prices in Queensland have been very volatile lately, with diesel often going up to $3 per litre.
Because of these sharp increases, we at Laguna Pest Control need to introduce a fuel levy starting now.
We know this is frustrating and not ideal for anyone. We’re sorry we must do this, but our operating costs have risen quickly due to all the driving we do for treatments, inspections, quotes, and service calls. To keep the business healthy and continue serving you, we need to pass on a small part of these extra costs.
Why we’re adding the fuel levy:
- Avoiding losses — When diesel prices spike, we can’t keep absorbing all the extra fuel costs without risking operating at a loss.
- Unpredictable prices — Fuel in South East Queensland changes a lot, so a fixed price without adjustments is hard to maintain long-term.
- Common in our industry — Many service businesses (like transport, delivery, and pest control) use fuel surcharges to stay fair and sustainable when prices rise.
- Protecting cash flow — High fuel costs can strain our finances and, if unchanged, could hurt the business overall.
How we’re making it fair for you:
- We’ll be open and clear — The levy will appear as a separate line on your invoice (e.g., “Fuel Levy”), so it’s easy to see and not hidden in higher hourly rates.
- It’s a tiered structure based on your exact location — We set a “base” fuel price, and the levy only applies when prices go above that base (calculated on the round trip – there and back – for the vehicle to return to Laguna HQ).
- Fuel Levy will be updated each day. If fuel prices drop again, the levy will disappear or be reduced automatically.
We truly appreciate your understanding during this tough time. We promise to keep delivering the highest quality pest management service you expect from us.
Please be kind and patient with our administration staff and technicians. Rising fuel costs are completely out of our control, and we would greatly appreciate your understanding. If you are rude or abusive to Laguna staff, we may need to cancel your service. Thank you for your cooperation.
